MADISON — A utility construction worker was airlifted to UMMC Wednesday evening after a trench collapsed on Hoy Road near Charlestowne Square, the authorities said.

The call came in at about 6:20 p.m. prompting a response by the Madison Fire Department to free the individual trapped beneath the collapsed dirt.

Medical personnel were staged in the area and once the man was freed he was airlifted to Jackson.

The Chain Electric worker was “alert and responsive,” Madison Police said.
