Franco and Pat Frascogna
Franco and Pat Frascogna
A St. Joseph High School junior discovers a love for powerlifting that brings him even closer to his dad.

Pat Frascogna, 54, and his only son, 17-year-old, Franco, do all the usual things a father and son do together with one exception; they are training for the competitive powerlifting circuit, too.  Pat was a competitive powerlifter some decades ago but, as he says, "the tyranny of life dictated my time be spent away from the weightroom".

However, after a 19-year hiatus, Pat reentered the weightroom two years ago to pickup where he left off.  "I was completely embarassed", Pat says of his first time back in the weight room, "but it has become the greatest comeback of my life".  Within a month of his return to the world of powerlifter training Pat asked his then Ninth Grade son, Franco, one afternoon if he would like to join him in the weightroom.  "I was absolutely thrilled", Pat said, when Franco looked up from a video game and said "yes".  Things have never been the same since.  For the last two years Pat and Franco have trained at the Healthplex in Madison.  "It's a great facility", said Franco, "a very nice place for me and my dad to spend time together".

To celebrate Franco's high school graduation the father and son team plan on competing in the Canadian National Powerlifting competition in Montreal, Canada in 2018.  "Why Montreal?", Franco asked, "because what my dad and I share together is special, so I thought we should make a special adventure out of it before leaving him to go to college."
